The HRF-PG Headend Pilot Generator (Redundant) from Comtech is a Headend Equipment. Headend include several equipment such as head-end, rectifiers, digital satellite receivers, transmitters, RF modulators (QAM/QPSK), control modules, servers that receive the signal from satellites and after that, decode, encode, and multiplex the signal to send in fields via fibers to subscribers.

The COMTECH HRF-PG is a high precision pilot generator for 1...4 CW pilot signals in the lower and higher section of the DOCSIS 3.1 CATV frequency range. The device supports the preparation of the networks forwarding DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 channels for the DOCSIS 3.1 work in the future by generating unmodulated carriers with frequencies, which aren't available by using the existing headend equipment. It is clean and clear, that the network can be leveled properly only in case, if also the channel with the highest planned frequency is present in the forwarded spectrum. If the headend provides only the conventional channels up to e.g. 862 MHz, the newly installed, DOCSIS 3.1 capable outside plant network elements (nodes and amplifiers) with 1,2 GHz bandwidth will need stabile additional channels with frequencies of e.g. 1 GHz and 1,2 GHz. The lower end of the spectrum works similarly. If the spectrum is already prepared for the 85/105 MHz and after that the 204/258 MHz diplexers, pilot signals are needed at the planned breaking frequencies of e.g. 106 MHz and 259 MHz. These signals are generated by the HRF-PG. The device can present 2 signals for the lower frequencies and 2 signals for the higher frequencies. Any of them can be activated or deactivated at any time, further their frequencies and levels can be set separately and independently from each other.
